About me

I'm a Canadian. I have a BA Honours in Political science with a minor in women studies. I love social activist STUFF and when i can't actively volunteer i find other stuff (such as working on the Wikipedia). My page is very much a page about my life. However I also want to try and get folks to understand more what it is like to live with various disabilities..in my case Learning Disabilities and Psychiatric Disabilities (i used mental illness in the title of the blog because its more commonly used, its not my term of preference). In many cases my day is like yours in other ways it isn't...its just one more way people are different from one another. And as a lot of people with disabilities say people without disabilities can be looked on as "Temporarily able bodied". That isn't meant to be mean or cause bad luck...the fact is that disabiity rates go up as you get older and if you die and old man (or woman) you'll likely have some disability of some sort....and when disabilities will appear can be as random as a car accident that wasn't minor enough.

I'm a freeware freek. Can't write code but love using the stuff..i have very few commercial programs on my computer that you pay for (or are shareware). Bascially my operating system and office. Everything else is free...one thing you learn in university (when you started in the early 1990's) is how to search databases (originally for library card catalogues). Its also very useful for finding software and other bits on the web, which has engines that are much easier to run than what i had to learn for schooll on the side (there is no course on boolean key words for social science students wanting to do papers...although the math department had a complicated on the topic.
